Cascades, a 9-hole design by renowned golf architect Roger Rulewich, is the newest course at the property and showcases inviting fairways, gently contoured greens, and spectacular views.

In between his busy schedule overseeing 45 holes, Matthew McGarry, Director of Golf Operations at Crystal Springs Resort let us in on his lifelong passion for golf and what his job entails.

How would you describe your morning routine to kickstart your day?

My morning starts with dropping my little guy off at daycare. I usually start my morning with a Celsius to get a little pep in my step before I get into the office. Once at work, I check in with my staff and then head to my desk to check emails and Tagmarshal to see our pace.

Has golf always been your first love?

Golf has always been a passion of mine. I grew up playing with my father and grandfather. I think I was about 4 years old when they got me an old Persimmon 3 Wood and I would hit balls all around the yard. So many great memories for me have been built around the game of golf.

Tell us about your role at Crystal Springs. Why is it important?

I am the Director of Operations at Crystal Springs Resort and every day brings something new. For the most part, I oversee the day-to-day operations of our 45-hole complex ranging from golf events, member and resort guest needs. I feel that everyone at our property deserves to have a world-class experience and that is what my team and I try to provide to everyone.

Why has your course decided to invest in Tagmarshal?

The Resort chose to implement Tagmarshal to provide my team and me with the most accurate and real-time data so that we could ensure swift resolution to any pace concerns. With 45 holes on our property, Tagmarshal allows the oversight to see exactly what is happening in real-time across all three courses. We also wanted to enhance the golfer experience and with the GPS display screen, we have done just that.

Since implementing Tagmarshal, how have your golfers responded to the on-course experience?

Our golfers have been very receptive to Tagmarshal.They love being able to see yardages as well as being able to look at our on-course menu selections. Tagmarshal has been a game-changer when it comes to pace of play data for my staff and the golfer. The golfer can see exactly where they are relative to our set pace of play and this allows for positive interactions when it comes to pace resolution.

Describe Tagmarshal in three words.

Dynamic, Innovative, User-Friendly 

What is your dream golf destination? Why?

My dream destination would be to go over to Scotland and play St. Andrews. I would even welcome some rain to get the full experience from such an iconic course.

Your best golf moment?

One of my best golf moments would have to be playing TPC Scottsdale Stadium Course with my groomsmen for my bachelor party. We also were able to attend the Waste Management Phoenix Open and it was an incredible time.

If you could be a caddie on Tour, whose caddie would you like to be and why?

If I could caddie for anyone on tour, I think it would be for Joel Dahmen. After seeing him on the ‘Full Swing’ Netflix series, he seems like your Average Joe who is exceptional at golf and doesn’t take it too seriously. I think that resonates with a lot of folks.
