FastLane Golf gives multiple foursomes that speedy first group out experience

PLAY 18 HOLES IN 60 MINUTES FASTER THAN GOAL TIME

Golfers are willing to pay a premium for a fast, great flow, no-hold-ups round of golf. While younger golfers are willing to pay a higher premium than older players with time being more important to them.

In research conducted by the USGA, 74% of golfers say pace is crucial to their enjoyment and further shows that players are willing to pay up to 25% more for an optimized, dedicated, ‘fast’ experience.

FastLane Golf gives golf courses the system and optimization tool kit to offer and manage dedicated FastLane Golf.

The result:

  • Add premium FastLane Golf tee times to your tee sheet
  • Give committed golfers the experience they want
  • 60% of golfers will pay more for a faster round of golf
  • Add revenue and profit

With tee-time slots for instant player attraction, at premium rates, courses can see an immediate ROI.

“Our players love it! We have a lot of dedicated golfers who prefer faster rounds, FastLane Golf is the perfect fit. It is easy to manage and generates extra revenue,” says Cassie Viljoen, General Manager at Royal Cape Golf Club.

How it works:

FastLane Golf gets set up on a course for two or more mornings a week. The system analyses optimal tee times, interval and goal times and provides a complete, turn-key package to be sold via tee sheets:

  • FastLane golf – play 18 holes in a committed time, substantially below course goal time
  • 5-8 tee times available (this can be increased in line with demand)
  • Players commit to playing within FastLane Golf’s time par –
  • The system provides live dynamic pace updates to each playing group to stay on pace and enjoy their round
  • The course commits to proactively manage the FastLane Golf tee times with the help of the system to provide an optimal outing for the players
  • The course offers FastLane golf at a premium ie. +10 to 15% on comparable tee off times

Golf courses and golfers can expect great benefits and a return on investment when golfers commit to playing more golf at the dedicated time. Operators can give dedicated faster players an experience that matches their expectations and charge a premium for the dedicated FastLane rounds.

Give players what they want and turn it into a revenue and profit centre.

Set up the rest of your field behind the FastLane golf slots for pace success.

New Rules of Golf aren’t a fix-all for pace of play

NEW RULES OF GOLF AREN’T A FIX-ALL FOR PACE OF PLAY!

  • 37 rules changes, just 4 relate directly to pace of play
  • Many changes reflect the way average and casual golfers have already been playing
  • Some changes will cause confusion to begin with

January 1 saw the introduction of some 37 Rules of Golf changes by the USGA and R&A. Aimed mainly at simplifying what is a complicated set of rules, much has been made of the intention to speed up play.

In reality, only four of the 37 changes relate directly to pace of play and the reality is that the majority of the changes reflect how average and casual golfers have already been playing. Ironically, in the short term anyway, getting to know the new rules changes is likely to cause delays – especially in the professional and elite amateur game as competitors seek confirmation from rules officials more often to ensure that they are playing by the new rules properly.

A number of new rules that will improve pace of play (drop at point of entry for a ball out of bounds being an example) are only options as Local Rules and will not be available in serious competitive play. And there is some debate as to whether leaving the flagstick in for putting will speed up play at all – there will be some players who will argue that there is no advantage so will choose to have it out while others will want it in. Will we see lots of removing and replacing of the flag depending on the “De Chambeau-like” theories of individuals?

And what of the ball having to remain in the “relief area” once it is dropped from knee height (in the past, it could roll a further two club lengths as long as it was not nearer the hole)? We are more than likely going to see more re-drops and then placing of the ball, all of which takes more time.

The option of a course having more Red “penalty areas” is great (navigating the dropping procedure at yellow-staked hazards was particularly difficult for casual golfers in the past) but the elimination of the option of opposite side relief at Red penalty areas – unless it is specifically stated in a Local Rule – will add unnecessary confusion.

Overall, the simplification of the Rules should have a positive effect on the game – golfers should enjoy many of the logical changes and improved experience for golfers is vital.

So, should operators lean back and allow the New Rules to assist with any pace-of-play concerns that they have at their courses? If they are looking to improve the experience for all golfers and are keeping a watchful eye on the bottom line, the answer should be a resounding no!

Oversight of on-course flow and pace of play should be a priority and the ability to react to problems immediately is vital. Tagmarshal, with its industry leading pace-of-play management solutions and golf-course intelligence technology, offers course operators and owners the ability to manage pace of play in a fact-based, objective way, improving both the experience for their golfers and gaining the ability to affect the bottom line positively by optimizing tee-sheets and adding extra tee times, especially in busy periods.

Analysis of data collected from monitored rounds gives management an important tool in decision-making, whether it’s in course set up, maintenance or even design changes. Tagmarshal can do all of this for you.

2019 is certainly an exciting new chapter for golf, but data and our customers’ results confirm that the fix-all can only be attained in partnership with Tagmarshal.

Tagmarshal’s Bodo Sieber on industry data experts panel at Golf TechCon 2018

TAGMARSHALS BODO SIEBER ON INDUSTRY DATA EXPERTS PANEL AT GOLF TECHCON 2018

With advances in golf course technology becoming more and more critical in the day to day operations of a golf course, the National Golf Course Owners Association (NGCOA), invited industry experts, for a thought leading panel discussion to provide insight on data collection, analysis, and opportunities for a round of golf. The panel was part of Golf Business Tech Conference which took place in Las Vegas October 10-11th.

Bodo Sieber, CEO of Tagmarshal, together with Scot Forbis, GM, Europe and Client Product Strategy at EZLinks Golf, Bryan Lord, CEO of Teesnap, and Kyle Ragsdale, Managing Director of Buffalo Agency were featured speakers during this year’s Golf TechCon event, held in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Golf Business TechCon is the golf industry’s only event specifically designed to showcase golf course technology. This educational, instructional two-day event allowed golf course owners, operators and other industry professionals to experience some of the tools, tactics, and techniques currently transforming golf course operations.

The discussion entitled “Collecting and Analyzing Data: From A to Z” was moderated by Hunki Yun, Director of Partnerships, Outreach and Education at the USGA, and discussed how golf course operators can capture, track, and analyze behavioral data about golfers, segment them into relevant targeted groups, and then use the information to get them to “do” more of what they want.

“I was very pleased to be on the Golf Tech Con panel in Vegas,” said Bodo Sieber, who has vast experience in data visualization and design thinking and data-driven efficiencies optimization solutions for better business outcomes.

“The panel looked at the considerable opportunity that data brings to golf operators for management and business success. At Tagmarshal, our particular focus is the on-course experience and on course, data to empower great golfer experiences that have a substantial business and revenue impact for both private and daily fee operations and I had the opportunity to share a lot of insights having learned from +7 million rounds of golf we have tracked and collected data on.”

Golf Business TechCon featured a host of educational sessions in multiple tracks that helped attendees both leverage and maximize current course technology. Attendees got answers to their most pressing questions, learning best practices and discovered solutions that worked for their business, and participated in real-time technology demonstrations.

Sieber added, “The panel is very familiar as we work closely on research projects with Hunki Yun from the USGA who moderates the panel and also the other industry experts in our partners EZlinks, represented by Scot Forbis and Billy Casper Golf’s Kyle Ragsdale who we know well. The combined expertise of the group gave the attendees a better understanding of data opportunities in a conversational and fun way.”
