Setting the Pace @ “the Show” – PGA Merchandise Show update.

Tagmarshal’s maiden visit to “the Show” raised more than a few cursory few eyebrows. The US golfing industries’ introduction to the company’s ground breaking pace of play management system couldn’t have come at a more appropriate time as the global game attempts to reinvigorate itself in order to attract new players to the code.

Tagmarshal attracted interest from hundreds of course managers over the course of the three days, most of whom took the opportunity to view a quick demonstration.

Craig Kleu, Tagmarshal’s Managing Director,  admitted the show surpassed his expectations, “I didn’t anticipate the type of disruption our system would cause. All of the industry players have sophisticated cart based systems but few of them appeal to the average course (largely because of their cost). We have introduced a model geared specifically towards pace of play management but that also provides plain vanilla tracking in a very attractive price bracket”.

It is common knowledge that the lengthy period of time it takes to complete an 18 hole round is detrimental to the growth of the sport, while #slowplay has become a common buzzword of the USGA and other governing bodies.

Dan Parkinson, Tagmarshal’s newly appointed US Sales Director – “Our pace management system has not only revolutionised the industries tracking fraternity by providing operators with the ability to monitor their walking fields in real time but it has also created a mechanism to measure playing time throughout the golf course”.

This is the type of technology managers have been waiting for, as they now have the ability to illustrate to ‘problem’ players where they have transgressed.

Other system features include the ability to distinguish between slow and delayed groups and a comprehensive statistics module that provides useful data on items such as average hole and round times, problem playing groups, as well as the ability to create membership pace of play profiles (see above).

Tagmarshal’s first United States installation was last summer on 2017 US Open host course Erin Hills.

Tagmarshal introduces Dr Dan Parkinson at 2015 PGA Show

Tagmarshal MD Craig Kleu will be teaming up with the tech companies newly appointed US Sales director to host Tagmarshal’s presence at the PGA Merchandise show in Orlando, Florida January 2015.

The show, the biggest sales expo of its kind, will see approximately 30,000 people through its gates between 20 – 23 January and Tagmarshal will be present for the first time with a booth of its own.

Kleu one of the founders of the ground breaking golf technology says “The US is extremely important in the context of the global golfing industry. With close to 15,000 courses we view it as our primary opportunity.”

He adds, “Over the past seven months we’ve added to our footprint by putting together a local sales team (headed up by Dan Parkinson) and begun establishing a growing customer base, including the likes of 2017 US Open host Erin Hills.”

Tagmarshal are excited to announce that Dan Parkinson MD from Alpine, Utah has taken up the position of Director of Sales for North America. Dr. Parkinson brings a wealth of experience in the golf industry and a passion for the game. Parkinson is a retired orthopedic surgeon who spent the first 17 years of his career in the US military as an Army surgeon.

A veteran of the first gulf war. He has played golf competitively since a young age and was a member of the BYU golf team and also played on the Army golf team. He has a daughter who is a PGA professional and a son who is a highly ranked college player.

Craig Kleu explains “Dan has been instrumental in introducing Tagmarshal to such notable groups as the PGA tour’s TPC courses and Billy Casper Golf Management. He understands the US golf market and understands Tagmarshal. His goal is to make Tagmarshal’s pace of play solution the standard throughout the industry.”

Dr Parkinson believes  “Too many players and course owners have given up on the pace of play problem which plagues golf. This attitude contributes to a poor golf experience and the decreased number of players in the game. It is our job to educate and inform these important members of the golf industry.”

“Innovative technologies like Tagmarshal will provide the tools to combat this trend and once, the key role players understand the intuitive nature of our product and the unique capability of differentiating between slow and delayed groups, they will not hesitate in making Tagmarshal an important aspect of day to day operations.” adds the former Army surgeon.

The simple integration of the technology will put to rest the arguments over who or what is at fault for slow play and the player will be better informed and understand his role in maintaining a proper pace.

The Tagmarshal North America Director of Sales says “The game for many will be fun again and courses smart enough to take advantage of our technology will be able to market improved playing times with data to back up their claims. From here it gets better and better for Tagmarshal, players and course owners.”

Parkinson concludes, “We have a unique opportunity to make a profound improvement in the game we love and it starts now!”

US Open hosts implement Pace of Play technology

Golf innovation Tagmarshal, a professional Pace of Play Management solution is being implemented at one of the top courses in the USA and the site of the US Open 2017, Erin Hills in Wisconsin.
Tagmarshal’s ground breaking pace of play management technology is an innovative response to the growing calls for a solution to pace of play management in golf. The software’s pace tracking algorithm uses positional data to map and monitor the playing field in real time.
Each four-ball is equipped with a matchbox sized tracker or smartphone application that collects and communicates real time positional updates.
A learning algorithm coupled with an intuitive and easy to use system of alerts then forewarns management of potential slow play, enabling a targeted response and the prevention of bottlenecks, all on the go.
In depth course data gets collected and analyzed to allow for continuous course optimization, a key requirement for any course looking to improve player enjoyment and profitability.
Pace of Play management is a crucial golf challenge, Tagmarshal’s John Willmore explains ” No player likes a slow or delayed round of golf and player enjoyment is paramount. But from a course’s point of view, fewer rounds also means less revenue and in a costs sensitive environment, management’s ability to optimize the attraction of their course is critical. We believe Tagmarshal is an efficient, cost effective tool that forms a crucial part in the overall effort to improve player enjoyment.”
Erin Hills is one of Golf Digest’s top 10 public courses in the US and has been selected to host the 2017 US Open as one of only six public access courses ever – a remarkable achievement that speaks of the calibre of the club.
“There has been great interest in our product in the US with a number of courses scheduled for implementation. We found these are courses looking to future proof and optimize, rather than ones with major pace of play issues.”
He adds “We are particularly excited to be partnering with a prestigious course such as Erin Hills who are fully embracing the technology and its benefits.” says Tagmarshal USA’s Steven Preston.
The technology hails from South Africa, a prime golfing destination and the home of the likes of Gary Player, Ernie Els and Retief Goosen.
Dave Gleeson, Director of golf at Westlake, one of Cape Town and South Africa’s top curses says “Being able to track the progress of golfers and their position on the course allows our marshal to go directly to any problems and address them immediately, which means that you don’t get large gaps in the field and your golfer is able to complete a round in an acceptable time. It is a direct and effective solution to a growing golfing problem.”

USA Today Golf features Tagmarshal

Slow play is an issue that has spread throughout the ranks in golf, all the way down to the weekend hackers. This year seems to have been especially “snail-like” around the Chicagoland area thanks to dry weather and more opportunities for newbies to hit the links. This isn’t a bad thing per se; however, more bodies on the course mean more minutes between shots.

Tagmarshal aims to curb slow pace of play with golf field management system

Tag

Charlotte, North Carolina – 26 August, 2013 – TAGMARSHAL™, a South African developed, GPS based tracking solution aimed at combating slow pace of play, will be available for sale in the USA from the end of September. The application, aptly named Tagmarshal, is a state of the art tech solution designed to provide golf course management with the tools to effectively manage a playing field.

Tagmarshal’s ground breaking pace of play algorithm is an innovative response to the growing calls for a solution to the debilitating trend of slow play in golf. The pace tracking algorithm uses positional data to map and monitor a playing field’s positions and speed. Each four-ball is equipped with a matchbox sized tracker or smartphone application that collects and communicates real time positional updates. An intuitive and easy to use system of alerts then forewarns management of potential slow play, enabling a targeted response and the prevention of bottlenecks, on the go, via any mobile or fixed browser based mapping interface.

In addition to a pace of play alert system, Tagmarshal’s smartphone application includes a range finder, live scoring and leaderboards as well as an online halfway house and pro-shop. Future versions of the app will include innovative ways to make tracking and improving pace of play more social for participating clubs and golfers.

The system was developed in partnership with South African courses Westlake and Mowbray, and has been available in the South African market since March 2013. Tagmarshal is currently being implemented on leading Johannesburg golf course, The Wanderers.

Westlake director of operations, Dave Gleeson; “Westlake were very excited to be associated with this exciting product. Being able to track the progress of golfers and their position on the course allows our marshal to go directly to any problems and address them immediately, which means that you don’t get large gaps in the field. Your golfer is able to complete a round of golf in an acceptable time and you can potentially accommodate a full field. It’s a direct and effective solution to a growing golfing problem.”

The management teams of both initial partner courses as well as many others played a pivotal role in helping outline the scope of the product, which ultimately is aimed at improving the golfing experience.

Tagmarshal operations manager and founding member, John Willmore;  “The irritating trend of slowplay, recently recognized by the USGA as a major threat to club economic sustainability through their #WhileWereYoung and #paceofplay Twitter ™ campaigns, has become public enemy number 1 in the golfing community. Besides detracting from enjoyment, the financial implications are severe as slower play means fewer rounds and less revenue for course operators.  In the current environment of rising costs, management’s ability to increase the attraction of its product is immensely important. We believe Tagmarshal will prove to be an efficient, cost effective tool that will form a crucial part in the overall effort to improve player enjoyment”.

Tagmarshal will be available for purchase in the USA on the 1st October 2013.
